Incumbent US Senator Lisa Murkowski (R, AK ) is up for reelection next year. Given the absolute mess that the US Senate has turned into, perhaps it is time to explore a few observations and rumors about the upcoming campaign.

One of the recent tricks by democrats in recent elections has been to split conservative votes by funding and backing libertarian candidates in closely contested elections.

Interesting election here in Alaska. All four of the democrat sponsored ballot initiatives passed. Three required a yes vote. One required a no vote. Unfortunately for the democrats, the positive outcomes on the initiatives did not drag their candidates across the finish line with them for the most part.

Young Alaskans voting for the minimum wage act a lot like chickens voting for Colonel Sanders, as they are going to get a most unpleasant surprise in the days, weeks, months and years to follow their vote in support of this initiative.

I found out about this one via a glossy color printed insert in the printed Alaska Dispatch News a few weeks ago.

So what happens when the second largest political party in the state pointedly disenfranchises some 52,000 of its primary voters for governor and 56,000 voters for LtGov? Surprisingly enough, we get a great round of applause, press conferences, smiling faces, positive media coverage, and happy union leaders.

Internal polling for the Mother Ship that is the Mark Begich for US Senate campaign must be showing things that are worrisome to our Boy Senator, as they ran a vicious and untrue ad blasting away at his Republican opponent Dan Sullivan last weekend.

If any of us needed another reminder that the US Senate is being led by a bunch of clueless demagogues comes a failed vote to overturn the SCOTUS Hobby Lobby opinion.

A week ago, the EPA released their so-called Clean Power Plan Rule, a 645 page monstrosity guaranteed to make electricity more expensive, less reliable, and ensure more of our hard-earned tax dollars go to friends and cronies of this regime all in the name of curbing the ravages of carbon pollution.

The party of slavery; the party of Jim Crow; the party of the inner city political machine over the last two centuries is back at it again, this time demanding that the Washington Redskins, a professional football team known by that name since 1937 change its name, as the current one is now offensive to Native Americans.

Just in time to turn out Bush Alaska in large numbers to vote for Mark Begich and Byron Mallott, the Obama regime’s Department of the Interior is considering seizing parcels of tribal land across Alaska, putting it into federal trust, and turning those lands and residents into Indian Country – essentially reservations.

Senator David Vitter (R, LA) introduced S.2156, the Regulatory Fairness act of 2014 in congress last month. The legislation is an attempt to keep the EPA from preemptively or retroactively vetoing a permit under Section 404 of the Clean Water Act.  Lisa is supporting the legislation.  Mark claims not to know about it.

The EPA assessment of the impact of the proposed Pebble mine in 2011 claimed to address local concern about the project, which the EPA simply couldn’t ignore. As it turns out, that was all a big lie. The results were pre-ordained and anti-mining groups worked closely with the EPA well before the assessment process was announced.
