Energy projects are sized based on what market they supply. Typically, economics drive them to be as large as possible to meet the need. It is more expensive to construct, hook up and operate 10 or 20 10 MW electrical generators than it is to build a single plant capable of producing 100 – 200 MW, if for no other reason than we have to man and supply all those individual plants.

Internal polling for the Mother Ship that is the Mark Begich for US Senate campaign must be showing things that are worrisome to our Boy Senator, as they ran a vicious and untrue ad blasting away at his Republican opponent Dan Sullivan last weekend.

The following was submitted to Fish Alaska Magazine in response to an article in their Aug/Sept 2014 issue by Dave Atcheson, an author who works with Trout Unlimited. It was entitled “A Pebble Mine Update” and was printed on page 6 of the issue.

We’ve had a flurry of columns in Anchorage claiming the FairTax hurts low-wage workers or benefits only the rich. The real story is a lot more positive and the low-wage worker should look forward to the replacement of the grossly unfair payroll and income taxes with the FairTax.

Regulatory capture has taken place right now, today when a group of extremely wealthy Americans and their tax exempt foundations end up controlling a government agency – in this case, the EPA.

We hoped here in Anchorage was that the Alaska Dispatch would improve the quality of their climate change hysteria. Sadly the new operation is a lot like the old one, with most recently a breathless piece about ocean acidification (caused once again by manmade CO2 emissions) and its impact on Alaska communities.

The Jew-hating Palestinians infesting the Gaza finally pushed Israel into a military response to their butchery after the bodies of three kidnapped Israeli teens were found June 30 after 18 days of searching. This butchery is in addition to firing thousands of Iranian supplied rockets into Israel over the last several months.

The EPA announced proposed performance standards that must be met by the Pebble partnership should they proceed with a mine in the Bristol Bay region of Alaska. This marks the first pre-emptive veto of mining here in Alaska by the EPA. Now that this precedent has been set, expect it to be vigorously used and abused by the EPA to shut down future mines throughout the rest of the U.S.

If any of us needed another reminder that the US Senate is being led by a bunch of clueless demagogues comes a failed vote to overturn the SCOTUS Hobby Lobby opinion.

The electoral juggernaut that is the Reelect Mark Begich hit a patch of rough water over the last several weeks; most of it due to democrats acting like democrats.

State approval of a mining permit for Usibelli’s Wishbone Hills coal mining project triggered the expected reaction from anti-mining people in the Valley and elsewhere, mostly intended to get the State to reconsider its approval. I foolishly got myself involved in the blizzard of e-mails over the weekend.

Now that the IRS has demonstrated itself fully partisan in nature and wholly unaccountable, what do we do? This is not the only agency that has chosen sides in the political wars, though it is certainly the worst, as it is the agency with the most power over our daily lives (though the EPA , DHS, (In)Justice, and FDA are certainly vying for that designation).

The Center for Immigration Studies released a report on immigration since the year 2000 late this week. The basic conclusions of the report, created using government supplied data, finds that over the last 14 years, there has been no increase in the number of Native Americans holding a job while 5.7 million immigrants hold new jobs over that period.

Things got significantly more interesting for the IRS over the last few weeks as more facts about their serial destruction of evidence and obstruction of justice hit the proverbial fan.

Last Friday, the IRS told House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp (R, MI) that they had lost two years of Lois Lerner e-mails between January 2009 – April 2011 because her computer crashed and ate them.  This is a lie.

As it turns out, the war on carbon dioxide by the Obama regime, democrats and the leftists that make up the environmental community is also a war on the global poor. And a large carbon footprint, high carbon dioxide emissions individual and national lifestyle end up becoming perhaps the best foreign aid program we Americans have ever put into place.

I do so like it when environmentalists are hoisted upon their own petards, especially when they sit on high and make self-serving pronouncements on where and how we will get our energy expecting the company to eat all the new costs. As MEA is a regulated cooperative utility, those additional costs will be borne by its membership.

A week ago, the EPA released their so-called Clean Power Plan Rule, a 645 page monstrosity guaranteed to make electricity more expensive, less reliable, and ensure more of our hard-earned tax dollars go to friends and cronies of this regime all in the name of curbing the ravages of carbon pollution.

The party of slavery; the party of Jim Crow; the party of the inner city political machine over the last two centuries is back at it again, this time demanding that the Washington Redskins, a professional football team known by that name since 1937 change its name, as the current one is now offensive to Native Americans.

What we are seeing out of the VA, is essentially a demonstration of a single payer medical system for veterans, something that has been going on for years inside the British Health Service, Canada’s Medicare, and to a lesser extent here in the US under Medicaid and Medicare. It is the future of all of us under ObamaCare.

The most important thing about this fight is what the EPA is not publicly saying. The entire anti-Pebble action is an attempt by the EPA to subvert existing public law so as to set itself up as the sole regulator of watersheds nationwide, usurping statutory authority given the Army Corps of Engineers and the states.

Just in time to turn out Bush Alaska in large numbers to vote for Mark Begich and Byron Mallott, the Obama regime’s Department of the Interior is considering seizing parcels of tribal land across Alaska, putting it into federal trust, and turning those lands and residents into Indian Country – essentially reservations.
