Obama DoD targets Military Commissaries

“Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel.”

– Samuel Johnson, April 7, 1775.

This is one of the great historic quotes, particularly applicable during the political campaign season.

Latest example of this is a Begich e-mail from his office in the US Senate sent Wednesday, April 09, 2014 at 9:53 PM to everyone on his e-mail propaganda list. The headline screams: “Begich to Armed Forces Committee: No Cuts to Alaska Commissaries.” In it, we are treated to our Boy Senator’s efforts to keep the Obama regime from defunding the commissary system here in Alaska and elsewhere to the point where costs for military members and retirees will significantly increase. It also includes the requisite photo of Mark with five military members who had spent time in Afghanistan. There was a link to a two-page letter written to the Senate Armed Services Committee dated April 3, 2014.

If true, this would mark the first time our Boy Senator has actually defended military spending from other democrats or the Obama regime. In the words of Bruce Willis in Die Hard, “Welcome to the party, pal.”

The proposed Obama budget is not the first assault on the commissary system by this regime. The first happened a year ago, when the political operatives from Obama’s OMB working in the White House to intentionally maximize individual pain due to the Sequester on military members and retirees worldwide imposed a series of decisions on the commissary system designed to make their continued operation as difficult as possible and customer experience as painful and unpleasant as possible. Those decisions worked nicely (if you are a Obama-oid), not so nicely for anybody else. http://www.armytimes.com/article/20130222/NEWS/302220307/Commissaries-ma...

At Joint Base Elmendorf Richardson when the Sequester kicked in last year, all cashier trainees were fired. Most of the current cashiers and baggers were fired. Limits were placed on how many cashiers were allowed to work any one time. The result was long, long lines during the majority of the day, as nobody was available to take money from the customers. All of these micromanaged personnel decisions were made in Washington DC, directed by the political operation that is the Obama White House and filtered down through the political appointees in DoD.

Note the target of this ugliness: minimum wage baggers, near minimum wage cashier trainees, low wage cashiers, and enlisted on food stamps. It wasn’t the evil Republicans that thought this up and executed it.

It was and is democrats, gleeful, sanctimonious democrats.

I have been using the commissary system for nearly 40 years, during all the budget wars since the early 1970s. These included the post-Vietnam and post-cold War budget cuts where DoD lost a full third of their budget in real dollars. This is the first time anyone has ever screwed around with the commissary system, military members or retirees.

Mark Begich knew about this from the beginning. As a democrat, he was complicit in its planning and execution and could have stepped forward over a year ago to fight it. He chose to do nothing. He chose to say nothing. His silence was and is still deafening. It appears that Samuel Johnson was indeed correct and his observation still says volumes about our current US Senator.
